Discover the new and improved Jindabyne Shared Trail and Tyrolean mountain bike network — and why Jindabyne is fast becoming one of the Snowy Mountains’ best year-round adventure destinations.
When people think of Jindabyne and the Snowy Mountains, skiing and snowboarding are usually the first things that come to mind. But when the snow melts, another side of the region comes alive.
Mountain biking in Jindabyne is becoming a destination in its own right, with significant investment helping to expand and improve the trail network around Lake Jindabyne, Tyrolean Village and East Jindabyne. With the latest trail upgrades nearing completion, there’s never been a better time to start planning a spring, summer or autumn cycling getaway.
What’s New on the Jindabyne Mountain Bike Trails?
The Jindabyne Shared Trail project has been progressively expanding and upgrading the network of walking and cycling trails around Lake Jindabyne.
In its latest update on 28 August 2026, Snowy Monaro Regional Council reported that the Tyrolean Village and East Jindabyne trail network was nearing completion.
Recent works include:
- Mill Creek Trail, which is approximately 80% complete
- New and upgraded mountain bike trails
- New trail bridges
- A new car park, awaiting certification
- Improvements to emergency access
- More weather- and water-resistant trail surfaces in frost-affected areas
- Upgrades and remediation across existing trails
- New signs, maps and wayfinding infrastructure
- Improvements to the Pink Trail and the new Gang Gang Trail to address a crossover point
The result will be a more connected and enjoyable network for both local riders and visitors.
Some construction and temporary closures remain in place, so riders should always check current trail conditions and follow Council signage before heading out.
Explore Jindabyne by Bike
One of the best things about riding in Jindabyne is the variety of trails and riding experiences.
The Lake Jindabyne Shared Trail provides up to 30km of walking and cycling trails between Banjo Paterson Park and Tyrolean Village on the eastern side of Lake Jindabyne, as well as west towards Hatchery Bay.
With surfaces ranging from concrete pathways to natural earth trails, there are options for a relaxed lakeside ride or a longer adventure.
For mountain bikers looking for something more challenging, the Tyrolean/Mill Creek network offers a mixture of hand-cut singletrack and machine-built trails, with options for different riding abilities.
The combination makes Jindabyne particularly appealing for groups with different interests and experience levels. Families and recreational cyclists can enjoy the shared trails, while experienced mountain bikers can head into the dedicated MTB network.
A Growing Mountain Bike Destination
The latest upgrades are part of a much bigger vision for cycling in Jindabyne.
Council planning documents outline work across the Tyrolean/Mill Creek network involving 28 interlinking trails, including new trail construction and the refresh and realignment of existing singletrack.
The aim is to create a more connected cycling experience around Lake Jindabyne and throughout the surrounding area.
And that’s one of the things that makes Jindabyne such a great base for an active holiday.
Ski in winter, mountain bike in the warmer months, hike in autumn, fish on the lake, explore Kosciuszko National Park or simply relax and enjoy the scenery.
There’s a reason to visit in every season.
Better Trail Maps and Rider Safety
The trail upgrades aren’t just about building new tracks.
Council is also improving signage, maps and wayfinding across the network.
New trail information is being developed to show updated trail ratings, identify whether trails are shared-use or MTB-only, and make individual trails easier to recognise.
Trail marker posts will also feature unique identification numbers registered with emergency services.
In an emergency, riders will be able to provide the marker number when calling Triple Zero (000), helping emergency responders identify their location.
For visitors who are new to the area, these improvements should make exploring the growing Jindabyne trail network easier and safer.
Make Jindabyne Your Base for a Snowy Mountains MTB Holiday
One of the biggest advantages of staying in Jindabyne is having easy access to so much more than the local trails.
Jindabyne makes an excellent base for exploring the wider Snowy Mountains cycling and mountain biking network, including riding opportunities in and around Kosciuszko National Park and the Thredbo Valley.
Rather than trying to fit everything into a single day, why not stay for a few nights and make a proper holiday of it?
Spend one day exploring the Jindabyne trails, tackle a longer Snowy Mountains ride the next, then slow things down with a walk, kayak, fishing trip or meal overlooking Lake Jindabyne.
That flexibility is what makes Jindabyne such a great destination for an active getaway.
